Edge Golf
Which sport requires more athleticism and endurance, Golf or Tennis?
I know tennis players are usually fit, BUT...........Golf players have to WALK an ENTIRE Golf course with the assistance of ONLY 1 caddy. So, I give the slight edge to Golfers. What do you guys think?
LOL!!! Yes yes I have to agree with you. It certainly is a challenge to take a leisurely walk through a golf course while having someone else carry your equipment.
I don't see how tennis players need endurance in order to sprint the length of a tennis court hundreds of times in a match while hitting more than a hundred serves on average of more than 130 mph, in temperatures sometimes as high as almost 100 degrees... I don't see why that would need more endurance and athleticism...

The village has been a popular destination for visitors to North Devon for some time. The nature of the narrow valley means the centre of the village is one long street and it currently holds the Guinness World Record for the longest street party. This event occurred for the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002 where 700 tables and crowds of between 5000 and 8000 descended on the main street. Combe Martin actually claims to have the longest main street of any village in the country at two miles long but others say this is not true and that the distance is in fact one and a half miles!
This stretch of coast was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural beauty in 1959. The North Devon AONB is an area totalling 171 square kilometres, from Marsland Mouth on the Cornish border to Combe Martin. The Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty status means the area is nationally protected for the beauty of its landscape. The coastal landscape around Combe Martin is some of the best in the UK. From Combe Martin, the Hangman Cliffs can be seen made up of two cliffs Little Hangman and Great Hangman. Great Hangman is the highest cliff in southern Britain at a height of 328 meters above sea level. The South West Coastal Path runs right through the AONB and Combe Martin. This path is the longest in Britain at 613 miles starting at Minehead in Somerset and finishing at Bude in Cornwall. Although walking the whole path is out of the question for the majority of visitors to Devon, walking any part of it around the Combe Martin area is a must.
The Pack O' Cards Inn is a landmark of Combe Martin. The Inn was built in 1690 by George Ley of Marwood to celebrate, quite strangely, a large win at cards. The inn, when built, had 52 windows - one for each card in the pack and 4 floors (representing the 4 suits), each with 13 doors. For such a small village, Combe Martin has an astonishing 11 pubs!
Combe Martin has grown in its visitor numbers and now has a large caravan site along with the ability to purchase Devon holiday homes on site. These Devon holiday lodges are growing in popularity. The Devon lodges can be found with two to four bedrooms so they are perfect for families with plenty of room to store surf boards and bikes. The location of Combe Martin is great for tranquillity but then Woolacombe and Croyde are only a short drive away for the surfing and younger crowds. Woolacombe and Croyde both hold a Blue Flag status for their beaches and surfing is in abundance.
As well as Devon lodges and holiday homes, there are Devon caravan sites in spectacular locations in the area. If you enjoy holidaying in this area as much as a lot of people do then a thought is to buy static caravan on one of these caravan sites. Modern touring caravans for sale and holiday lodges come with better specifications than a lot of houses with broadband, sky TV, spacious plots, large decked areas, paved courtyards and all year round holiday use. Better still on some of the top Devon resorts you will also be able to make use of the onsite facilities such as heated indoor swimming pools, golf courses and equestrian centres.
So, Combe Martin has the best of both worlds and really does appeal to a wide visitor audience.
