How do you set up for deer with the wind in your face, if they always travel with the wind in their Faces?

I am new to deer hunting this year and my weapon of choice is my 1989 Jennings Compound. I read books, watched videos, and talked to old timers, but they all seem to contradict eachother and I am having a rough season so far to say the least. Any tips with anything would also be appreciated.

Actually, deer do not always travel with the wind in their face. They (esp. whitetails) do use the same trails to and from their feeding and sleeping areas. This is why scouting is very important for the bowhunter. You need to determine which trail they will use for the time you are going to be on your stand. Set up off of the trail with the wind in your face. This way the deer cannot smell you. If the wind changes, do not hunt this stand as it will only educate the deer and make them harder to get. You will not fool a deer's nose. Even with the scent reducing clothing, you still need to watch the wind.

Think of it this way: A deer has three primary means of defense: smell, sight and sound. It usually takes alerting two of the three to trigger a "get the heck out of here" response. If a deer sees you but does not smell or hear you, they will try to figure out what you are. Same with if they hear you but don't smell or see you. The exception is the nose. If they smell you, they are gone! Keep the wind in your face and set up down wind of the trail and you're 1/3 of the way to eating venison. Good luck.
